A damp and a cool nose of the dog is a natural phenomenon what actually matters is the temperature of the body. A dog should register a normal temperature reading on measurement by a thermometer. Even when the nose is warm or parched it does not necessarily mean fever or illness. The temperature is the only conclusive statement about illness prediction of a dog.
The colour of a dog's nose can be as its coat, pink or black. The state of health of a dog can be judged by the appearance of nose discharge. A healthy dog will have clear nasal discharge if any. Foul smell, thick, yellowish or even bubbly nasal discharge is an indication of ill health.
The nose temperature should not be taken immediately after the dog has returned from outside on a cold windy day or it has just dipped its nose in cold water or has eaten something hot.
