The name Lacerta is the name given to a constellation from among eighty-eight constellations. This name was contributed by Japan. The name Lacerta means 'lizard'. This is a Latin meaning. The Lacerta constellation is a modern constellation and hence there is no mythology associated with it. The name meaning also does hold any ancient story. Generally, constellations are named on the positioning of the stars or bright stars in a constellation. These stars make a certain shape and thus the constellations are named accordingly. For example: the constellations of Leo and Hydra resemble the shapes of lion and hydra. Many such others constellations are named similarly.

Lacerta constellation appears like a little Cassiopeia, a W-shaped constellation. The lacerta constellation also resembles a 'W' shape
