    The name Hastings is believed to be of Old English origin. The name Hastings is believed to mean "son of an austere man". Hastings has around four different variations including Hasty, Hasting, Hastey and Hastie. It is a name for boys but is popularly found as a last name. It is also found used as the name of several places.

    Hastings as the name of a place is perhaps best known for Hastings in England where William the Conqueror founded his base. There the Norman fought King Harold and opened the gates of England for the Normans. The battle that they fought was known as the battle of Hastings. There are over eight places in the United States called Hastings and five places in Canada besides. There is even a movie called Hastings.
