Ice skating is mainly a winter sport, but there is no such hard and fast rule that states that it is not a popular activity all through the year. Ice skating is defined as a sport in which an ice skater travels on ice with skates. The skates which are used for the purpose of ice skating have devices that resemble blades which narrow in width and which are sometimes parabolic.
The blades on the ice skates are moulded into special boots which are then worn by the ice skaters to indulge in their favourite sport. Ice skating is primarily done for the sake of recreation, but now there are a lot of ice skating competitions held every year in many countries,. These ice skating competitions are either held on the surfaces of naturally frozen lakes and rivers or in outdoor and indoor skating rinks which have natural or artificial cooling.

As a serious ice skater I have found that more people skate in the summer. I skate in an indoor rink so it is open all year round. People want to beat the heat and the ice rink is the ideal place to hang out in the summer.
It is still pretty popular in the winter however.
Serious ice skaters skate all year round so they are usually there
