What Is The Difference Between The Main Storage And The Backing Storage Of The Computer?

Answer Question

The main storage, also called as primary storage or memory is the memory which is directly accessible by the CPU. It includes the data that is being currently used. This memory is connected to the CPU through a data bus and an address bus. It is the RAM of the computer. The data in this memory is volatile which means that it disappears when the power is switch off. On the other hand, a backing storage device is an external memory and has permanent storage. Data is stored in this memory and is not lost on when power is switched off.

The main storage is the hard disk which is fixed in the computer and you save the data primarily in that disk.  Like if the data is saved in drive C:, D: Or E: It is saved in the main storage!
While the backing storage generally known as back-up devices. It includes floppy disks, CD's, USB drives and detachable hard disk!
