Theatre is indeed a universal language since human nature and instincts are the same regardless of varying cultures, religions or time. Theatre or drama is the visual representation of human feelings and emotions, which are worldwide and will remain the same till the end of time. Another proof of theatre or literature being in a universal way of communication is that different theatrical performances stimulate same emotions in people apparently belonging to multiple cultures and backgrounds.

For this reason, all the critiques believe that the finest pieces of theatre or any drama are those which have a universal appeal and which are timeless.

I've believed this ever since  I once saw a play that I knew very well, performed in a  language that I hardly knew at all. It was fascinating to see how the feelings, ideas etc in the play communicated themselves to a different culture and produced just the same effects as they would anywhere. Also it's very interesting to think how, even though different cultures use different gestures, movements etc to convey emotion, the things  they want to convey - love, hate, fear, whatever - are always the same wherever you go.

This is a  great question and i hope you get plenty of answers.
