The organic foods industry is a burgeoning one and as such any product that says organic on its label is deemed to be totally safe and healthy though this is far from true. Except in the US where the Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set strict standards which are to be observed by a farm before its products can be classified as organic, in most other places there are no such measures implemented and people have no way to determine if the products are authentic or not.

In the UK there are different bodies authorized by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to certify whether a farm and its product are organic or not. Some of the organizations are the Organic Food Federation, Organic Trust Ltd, Quality Welsh Food Certification Ltd, and Scottish Organic Producers Association among others; all the bodies are registered with the United Kingdom Register of Organic Food Standards (UKROFS).

Organic products carry a name of the certification body or its code on the label; some products are partly organic and accordingly state the percentage of organic ingredients in the product usually between 70% and 95%.
