How Are Obituaries Written?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Obituaries are written and published in newspapers to inform the general public of a person's demise. They are written either by the family of the deceased, friends, organisation or employees and colleagues. Most obituaries state the basic facts about the person that includes their name, age, profession, cause of death.

An obituary also contains information about any planned memorial service or prayer session that is to be held, along with the time and place and weather it is a public or private affair. Sometimes an obituary also contains comments and reflections from loved ones.

An obituary may also contain information related to legal matters and information relating to the surviving heirs. An obituary is sometimes required to be published by law as in the case of people who are involved in a legal case or dispute, or where creditors are concerned.
