How Was Microsoft Windows Made?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Microsoft Windows basically is the name of the numerous families of proprietary software operating systems by Microsoft.

Microsoft initially launched an operating system named Windows in the year 1985 as an attachment to MS-DOS in response to the rising awareness of graphical user interfaces. Later Microsoft Windows took over the world's personal computer market, beating OS/2 and Mac OS which were being used earlier. The initial versions of the Microsoft Windows were made of 16-bit operating environments. But even the initial 16-bit version had quite a few standard operating system functions, like having their personal executable file format and supplying their own device driver.

Windows/386 came with the 32-bit protected mode kernel and virtual machine monitor. Whereas Windows 3.0 and Windows 3.1 had enhanced designs, mainly owing to virtual memory and loadable virtual device drivers, which permitted them to split arbitrary devices amid multitasked DOS windows.
