Data entry is a legitimate field of work but it is a very simple field of work and involves being tied to a computer for several (well up to eight) hours per day. You will need excellently high typing rates and you will need to be as effective on the numeric keypad as you are typing. This type of work is not usually well paid unless it is in a big city working for big firms.
Most of these types of jobs can be gained through employment agencies, people are always looking for good data entry clerks (the name given most commonly for people doing this type of job). It is worth checking out where you could be working when speaking to these agencies, I for instance worked in a lab that tested on animals, and I was entering data on animal samples and felt sick for most of the day.
