    Print Media is one of the oldest forms of public communication in the world. The history of the Print media in India dates back to the year 1780.

    According to historians, the first Newspaper of India is considered as the Bengal Gazette. This Newspaper started in the year 1780 and was published under the British Raj. This Newspaper was published by James Augustus Hickey. It was in English Language.

    There were a number of other similar newspapers that started off after the Bengal Gazette. These include:
    - The India Gazette
    - The Calcutta Gazette
    - The Madras Courier
    - The Bombay Herald.

    The first Newspaper in a local language was Samachar Darpan. It was in Bengali language and its publishing started in the year 1818.  

    All these newspaper followed the pattern set by Bengal Gazette.
