How Many Games Did Current Sunderland Manager Roy Keane Play For Nottingham Forest?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Born in Cork, Republic of Ireland in August nineteen seventy one, Roy Maurice Keane was signed for former European cup winners Nottingham Forest in nineteen ninety by former Forest legend Brian Clough.

Clough sought out the services of the Irishman, recruiting Keane from Irish league side Cobh Rovers.

Keane went more or less straight into the Forest team, making his debut for Forest in against league champions elect Liverpool in nineteen eighty nine.

Two years later and Keane was a regular in the side, and he was in the Forest side that lost out in the FA cup final of that year, made famous for the injury sustained by Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne.  Sadly for Keane, Clough and Forest, they went on to lose the final, despite former England player and current Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce giving Forest a first half lead.

By the time Keane left Forest for Old Trafford in nineteen ninety three, he was regarded as one of the best young players in Britain.
