Discipline is perhaps one of the most important element or part of military training and life. It was of course a considerable surprise when a highly decorated Major General of the United States Military publicly criticized the President. The General was John K Singlaub who was censured by and relieved by the President on the 21st of March 1977. The President stated that the public statements made by the Major General were opposed to the national security initiatives emphasized.

John K Singlaub was in many ways considered a war hero. Later he was also involved in the Iran-Contra affair. He was also active with the controversial organization known as the anti-communist league. Most of his activities centred on anti communist covert operations. Weather it was Korea, China, Nicaragua or Vietnam. He has received a number of awards from both the United States and several foreign governments.
