Horton in Ribblesdale is a small community situated approximatey 51/2 mies from Settle. The village has two pubs, a cafe which sells books on walking and some outdoor gear.
The Crown Hotel has homely accomodation and good food, it is also very dog friendly.
The local post office will take internet orders from it's website and often deliver for you.
Horton is on a direct route to the Lake District and on the road to Kendal. It is a very busy palce in the summer months and is reasonably busy in the winter when many walkers still visit. The name Pen Y Ghent is unusual for the area and sounds Welsh in origin. Welsh was once a widespread language. Some placenames around Horton sound Norse in origin and archaeological research has confirmed Viking settlement in the area.
