The House of Representatives is nothing but the name of a legislative body in several countries. It generally is the lower house of Parliament in certain countries while in others it is the sole Parliamentary body. It can be said to be a lot like the House of Commons in composition and function deferring slightly from country to country.

It is basically composed of the representatives of the people or in other words elected officials from the respective constituencies. The functions of the house differ a lot based on what system of democracy the country chooses to follow, i.e. Presidential or Parliamentary. In the United States the two houses are the House of Representatives and the Senate. While members of the Senate are put forward by the legislature of each state the members of the House of Representatives are elected directly.
