There are many different styles to drape a Sari although the most common one is the 'Nivi' style which is mostly used for the five yard sari. The first thing to do is to hold the sari along the width and tuck one end into your petticoat, at the centre. Now start draping it from right to left making sure that your legs have enough room to move. All this while try to maintain the same length at the edge of the sari. Once you're done tucking it around you, you can start with the front pleats. These are generally about 4 inches wide. Make about 5 to 7 of these tucking the first pleat in at the centre and making sure that each of them has a straight fall without being folded or creased. Now pile these entire pleats one on top of another and tuck them in where the first pleat was.

The remaining length of the sari becomes the 'pallu' and is to be wrapped from the left around the back and in the front over the left shoulder. If the fabric that you're using is slippery then pleats the pallu and it can be held in place using safety pins.
