One of the greatest and most prosperous civilizations of the world, the Indus Valley civilization developed thousands of years ago in between the periods of 3000 and 2000 B.C.  The remains and ruins of this rich culture have been discovered only very recently during the early years of the 20th century.  The area in which the civilization flourished is a vast one stretching about 160 kilometres from the Arabian seas to the Himalayan mountain ranges.  Two of the most significant cities of this civilization were called Mohenjodaro and Harappa.  In the literal sense, Mohenjodaro was comprehended as 'mound of the dead'.  Besides being rich in the agricultural regard, the Indus Valley civilization also produced connoisseurs in the field of architecture, the vestiges of the refined art found by archaeologists giving enough evidence of their architectural prowess.  Moreover the cities were planned on a very organized basis with public baths and a systematic public sewerage system.  As for the religious regard, the people of the Indus Valley worshipped idols.  Moreover trade was a common profession too that was even conducted with people of places as distant as Iraq and Egypt.
