Why Can't I Save A Document In WordPerfect 8 With Windows Vista OS?

Wordperfect 8 is by no means designed to run or supported to run on Vista. First piece of advice - update.

Beyond that, the problem with Vista is two fold: 1) Wordperfect requires access to portions of the computer that are secured and thus are only accessible to administrators in the fashion that wordperfect requires them to be accessible and 2) given that your old piece of software requires admin access and is unaware of the Vista security model, user account control will be your next hurdle.

If you log in as an admin and disable UAC (user account sin control panel) you may have some luck though you may open yourself up to other kinds of attack, especially given that you are running as an admin.

You may also try editing the registry (by no means recommended and can cause major damage if you mess up) and modify the permissions of the following registry keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / WordPerfect.PerfectScript
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / WordPerfect.PerfectScript.8

Right-click on each key and choose permissions. Add "Everyone" and grant that group Full Control.

Hey, I had the same problem, took me 11 months to solve it. The truth is, you have to go into control panel and turn on the indexing function. There are two indexing functions, the wrong one won't help, the right one works. I've now had to do this one a few machines, and it works every time. Unfortunately I have trouble finding it each time.
