Why Does The Kangaroo Have A Pouch?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Animals that have a pouch are called marsupials and kangaroo is one of them. The pouch that the kangaroo has, which is in between her hind legs, is about as snug and comfortable little home as a new born baby can leave. It is fur-lined, keeps the baby warm, protects it, enables the baby to nurse and provides transportation for the helpless infant.

The reason of a pouch which is given by nature for kangaroos and other marsupials is that their young are born in a very helpless state. At the time of birth the young kangaroo is a tiny, pink, naked mass and not much over three millimeters and as thick as a lead pencil. So, that's why the mother places the kid in the pouch and for six months that become the new born baby's home.
