Statistic is basically the result which we get by applying a function or statistical algorithm to a set of data.
It is a function of a sample where the function itself is totally independent of the distribution of the sample. It is used for the function as well as the value of the function of a given sample.
It is used as an estimator in statistical inference. It is also used to estimate the parameters of a distribution of a given sample. For example the mean of the sample is a statistic whereas the mean of the population is a parameter.
