When Was The Reformation?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A reformation is a fresh start, doing away with the obsolete and replacing it with the new and fresh. It is a term frequently used in connection with the removal of accumulated impurities and corruption. Therefore it is not surprising that the 'reformation' is a term often applied to religious rejuvenation. The Reformation is the name of many religious purges over the years. However it is most commonly associated with the Protestant Reformation.

The Protestant Reformation was a movement in the 16th century to reform the Catholic Church, which apart from being the most powerful religious body at the time, was rampant with greed and corruption. It all began in 1517 when Martin Luther a German monk nailed his 95 Theses to the Wittenberg Castle's Church in protest against the sale of indulgences which was one of the key points of dispute during the reformation,

The Reformation was a protest against the practice of prayer to Mary, belief in purgatory, intercession of the saints and authority of the Pope, all of which have no backing in the Holy Bible. Ultimately the Christian Church came to be split in to four traditions as a direct consequence of the Reformation.
