What Is The Concept Of 'Thinspiration'?

The concept of thinspiration is an offshoot of the pro-ana movement. It basically idolizes anorexics. The primary aim of thinspiration is to glorify the 'thin' look over the normal healthy look. Thinspiration can be seen in many of the pro-ana or pro-ed websites on the Internet. Most of these websites have portraits of wafer-thin models and idolate and praise them over normal healthy people.

Thinspiration involves putting up of portraits of thin women, and mocking and ridiculing normal healthy women by putting up their images as caricatures. Fat people are the targets of extreme ridicule where thinspiration is involved, fat being the diametric opposite of thin. Images of overweight or fat people are used as pointers of what anorexics should never ever turn out to be.

Thinspiration as a concept developed as an initiative of anorexics and people suffering from other such disorders to propagate their world. It was a way of assuring themselves that they were better-looking and therefore, better off, than most other people in the world.
