The state of Florida got its name from a Spanish term and the term is Pascua Florida. When you translate the term into English you will find that it conveys the idea of Flowery Easter and refers to the season of Easter. The reason for the state getting such a name is that there was a Spanish explorer called Juan Ponce de Leon and he landed there during that very season and that made him give the name to the place itself as such and it was adapted by everybody.

As we have talked of the history of Florida, we should talk about its present scenario also and if you take the present state of economy of Florida, it is heavily dependent upon tourism and has major tourist centres like Miami and some other tourist attractions also. So visit the state and enjoy its attractions.

I thought the explorer Coronado provided the original name "La Florida" (Sp. "the flowery land").

Juan ponce de leon found florida he named it that because of a spanish name and the name is pascua florida in spanish it means flowery easter wich can also mean the season of easter. Juan ponce de leon also named it florida because he found florida in the season of easter and since he is spanish a name for easter in spanish is pascua.
