Basically all fish is good for you : unless you eat it deep fried in batter, when it does lose some of its healthy properties. Fish is low in fat and rich in protien as well as vitamins and minerals. But some fish, known as oily fish' are 'super fish'. This is because they contain omega 3 oils. Eaten two or three times a week, they actually form a protective barrier round the heart and help keep it healthy. Eating oily fish as little as twice a week can cut the risk of a heart attack by almost 33%. Oily fish do have more calories than white fish such as cod, but the health benefits are far superior.
Oily fish are sardines, salmon, pilchards, herrings, mackerel and trout. The fish does not have to be fresh, but can be frozen or canned. (However, it is advisable to check the salt level of tinned fish, since this can sometimes be quite high).
