Diabetes type 2 is an disease that has had the medical fraternity, concerned for the past few years as there has been a galloping increase in cases of this disease, due for the most part, to bad diet.
Th consumption of supersized food and softdrinks loaded with sugars, saturated and trans fats, and in particular, fats heated to high temperatures, and a host of chemicals to prolong the shelf life and enhance flavors, has doctors very concerned.
We now have the first generation of young adults raised almost exclusively on these cheap but unhealthy foods.
The endocrine system in our bodies is under attack from all this, and the result is a massive spike in cases of diet related diabetes. Most often found in overweight and obese children and young adults from lower income families, who can ill afford the expensive health care associated with this disease.
The social implications of this are mind boggling.
The state simply could not cope with the levels of this disease if it continues to occur at present rates.
Private health care is out of the reach of the majority of households in America.
This disease is also on the increase in many other countries,
that previously had a very low incidence, yet since the accessibility of high calorie fast food in almost every corner of the globe, coupled with lack of activity from sitting in front of a T.V. or computer, for more than 6 hours a day, this has changed.
Much of the medical research being conducted today, concerns diabetes, it's causes and prevention.
