      Ice can float because it is lighter than water. Think of it this way when you come accross questions like this: An item will only float if the same volume but in water is havier than the object itself. And when you freeze the ice little air bubbles form so it is lighter than water anf therefore floats. Hope i helped.

        Ice floats because when it becomes into a liquid its density increases and as it becomes a solid the density decreases.
