    The town of Tyre is a town of southern Lebanon. It was a most renowned and important commercial city in the time of 6th to 11th century B.C. The city was a point of Phoenician civilization as well as the centre to dominate over sea. Later it became important for silken garments and Tyrian purple dye. The city was mentioned in the Bible and in the 14th century B.C it was rediscovered. It was blocked by the Babylonian king Nebuchadrezzar for 13years and later in 332 B.C Alexander the Great captured the city.

    Tyre was also ruled by the Seleucid dynasty and by the Roman before it was confined by Muslims in the time of 7th century. The city became the major one of the kingdom of Jerusalem in the year 1124 when it was held by the crusaders. The city was destroyed when the Muslims re-occupied it in the year of 1291.

    The modern town was added in Lebanon in 1920. The Israel force captured it in 1982 to 1985. The most economical resource to income is fishing. According to the census report of 1994, the population of the Tyre was estimated 80,000.
