Games Workshop PLC is a British game production and retailing company. It is one of the largest gaming companies in the world and is the leading company in the miniature wargaming hobby.
Games Workshop was founded in 1975 by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. It was originally an importer of Dungeons and Dragons. Games Workshop was once a bedroom mail order company and expanded to a successful gaming publisher and manufacturer.
Games Workshop were given the rights to produce a skirmish wargame based on 'The Lord of the Rings' films, and also on the novels by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Current Core games that are in production and widely available include Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40,000, The Lord of the Rings Strategy Batlle Game.
Games Workshop also have a well-known magazine called White Dwarf, which has now passed 319 issues in the United Kingdom. Currently, nine different international editions of White Dwarf are published, with different material, in five languages.
