What Makes A Man An Animal?

Everything in our bodies is shared with other animals and, indeed, the whole of nature - there is no special substance that exists only in humans. We share more than half of our DNA with the fruit fly, and are at least 95% genetically identical with chimpanzees (this figure could be even higher; scientists are still exploring exactly how similar/ different we are to our nearest relatives.) What makes humans special is mainly the size and complexity of our brains.

The fossil record shows plenty of evidence of modern humans and apes having had a common ancestor. You might like to have a look at a site on human evolution for a quick overview.

However, there is a wealth of information about this subject, both online and through books and other media. It's a fascinating subject, and new discoveries are being made every day.
