Can A Person Who Smokes Get Pneumonia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, smokers can certainly get pneumonia, and as this illness affects the lungs smokers will have an exceptionally hard time breathing. Even after recovery, one of the lingering after-effects of pneumonia is breathlessness, and smoking can make recovery very difficult.

I know one smoker of 60+ years' standing, who had avoided the common smoking-related diseases and always swore she'd never give up. After contracting pneumonia in her 70s she stopped straight away, and has never attempted to start again - the breathlessness was just too frightening.
