What Transportation System Carries The Most Passengers In New York City
New York City is the only city in the world where maximum numbers of people use the public transport system. It is a city where almost 54 % population does not possess a car and of all the people who commute to work 32 % of them make of use the subway.
The old and dingy subway system of the 1970s has been completely overhauled into a safe, convenient and efficient mode of travel between all areas of New York city and subsequently is considered as the most complex and largest subway network.
Several government agencies and private corporations together share the responsibility to manage the various components of the subway system. The largest and most important is the Metropolitan Transport Authority. It manages all the cities subways and buses and out of three rail networks meant for commuters it runs two of them.
This mode of mass transit has a deep influence on the life style of New York. To make commuting easy at all times it has two twenty-four hour subways. In addition to commuting by the subways, citizens also travel by buses, the total number of buses being around 5,800.
