We all know the difference between a good address and a bad one. Back in 1970s, living in Soweto was certainly the worst address you could have on this planet.

The name comes from SOuth WEstern TOwnships of Johannesburg- South Africa.
In the 70ies, I was invited as juror in a dancing competition, and we went to the big modern Social City Hall by car accompanies by 3 police-cars in front and 3 following. Comparing it with today- well- it was more tidy then, because squatters were not allowed. And the vista has changed completely because whereas the front-yards were mostly dirt-bare in 1970, today there are plenty of shady trees. People say, there is a certain "vibe" in Soweto of today, and you actually do get to feel it, hearing the unparalleled music all around. I saw nobody begging, and when the car stopped at a red light, boys rushing close offering a wash of your windscreen, were politely going off, when you shook your head. They just smile and say: "how are you?" and the smile gets broader when you answer: "Sharp, sharp", and they reply "Tsotsi, tsotsi" - meaning - very very good in their slang.
