Educational psychology is a specialism within general and child psychology. Educational psychologists are employed by local authorities in the UK to advise on best practice in schools and to work with individual children and their carers when difficulties arise. The involvement of a child psychologist does not imply a child is suffering from mental ill health. They can help with social, emotional , learning and behavioural difficulties whuch may have nothing to do with an illness. Educational psychology is a specialism within developmental psychology. This is the scientific study of human development and behaviour. The influence of mothers and fathers, whether or not they remain the primary caregivers throughout childhood, is thought to be a crucial factor in the psychological and emotional develoipment of all children. This is why parents are often required to become closely involved with educational psychologists who are there to help children, their families and other key adults such as teachers, solve any problems.
