How Was Agriculture Introduced In Zanzibar?

    Zanzibar basically is the name of two islands, Unguja and Pemba which are located in Tanzania. The capital of Zanzibar is, Zanzibar City which is positioned at the Unguja Island.

    Agriculture in the form of clove trees was introduced to this region by the French, who had successfully been growing cloves in the Pacific Island, from a long time. The main production of agricultural cloves was started around the 1830s. Even till today Zanzibar produces cloves on a large scale, and clove cultivation is said to be the main source of spice income of the islands.

    The island of Zanzibar consists of three main governmental constituencies, which are Zanzibar Central, Zanzibar North and Zanzibar West. The total population of both these islands as of the year 2002 was estimated to be, 981,754.
