What Was The Controversy Relating To Wilbur Smith Claiming That His Novel River God Was Based On True Events?
All of the books by best selling author Wilbur Smith have one thing in common. It is this that they are purely fictional. They are true with regards to historical settings as much as the Arabian Nights is when it calls Baghdad the capital of the Caliphate, and no more (Baghdad was the capital for a period of time!).
In the novel River God Wilbur Smith claims in a two page after word that this novel of his is based on actual events. That there is documentary proof of this in the form of documents dating back to 1780 BCE, and that these documents were passed on to him by Dr Duraid al-Simma a noted Egyptologist. In his next book titled "The Seventh Scroll" Wilbur Smith points out that these claims were not true or that they were as fictitious as Scheherazade.
