Our evaluation is based on our Job Description. The supervisor checks if I have been meeting my goals mentioned in Job Description. There are number of other factors like communication, interpersonal skills, team leading etc. All parameters carry points.

This way the strengths and weakness can be easily shown on the evaluation form. If you do your job at the appointed time, you are good at your job and if not you are weak in the given area. So you will lose points in the final evaluation.

I received a rating of "exceeded."

We are given our job description goals and expectations at the beginning of the year.  We sign for them.

At the end of the year, our Chief goes over performance evaluation's and each expectation is scored a "met"  "did not meet" or "exceeded."  We may have 10 job expectations. If the chief rates an expectation as "did not meet" or "exceeded" she has to write an explanation as to why.   At the end we are rated an overall "met" "did not meet" or "exceeded" based on an average of all expectations.
