How Can I Access Parish Records?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You can access parish records by referring to the parish registers. Parish registers are those books in which vital information about the parishioners is provided. These details are official and authentic, unlike the information that is passed down from one generation to the next in a family. Certificates also do not reveal a great deal of information.

Parish registers can usually be found at the local county record office. Transcripts or microfilm copies can be obtained at a major town library. However, it is an unwritten but clear rule that no member of the parish (other than the office-bearers) can borrow and reproduce the parish register or any part thereof.

You can also find parish registers at the Genealogical library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located nearest to your home town.
