Cataracts affects the lens of the eye, and the reason why the condition usually occurs, is because when we age, protein may start to fuse together and this clouds a small area of the lens. Over time this can worsen and the person's vision can be severely affected. You may not be able to notice the cataracts or its effects during its early stages, as it often has little effect on the vision at first. You may have some blurring or sensitivity to light however so that is one symptom to look out for.
You will get different symptoms for each of the three different types of cataracts. If you suffer from a nuclear cataract, you may notice a temporary improvement to your sight, but this will only be short lived as the cataract worsens. If you develop a Subcapsular cataract you may not have any symptoms or at least very little symptoms, until it is quite far gone.
If you do notice that you have cataracts quite early, using a new pair of glasses, strong bifocals, a magnifying glass, or other visual aids, can often help to improve your vision for a while. As soon as the cataracts start to worsen however, and it starts affecting your everyday life, it is wise to consider having surgery to correct it. Cataract surgery is a simple, relatively painless procedure which enables you to regain your vision.
