    Who Was The 'Lone Eagle'?

    asked 2 years ago

    1 Answer

Charles Lindbergh was named the Lone Eagle after his solo flight from the USA to France in 1927. He was the first person to fly the Atlantic Ocean solo.
He made the trip in an aeroplane called 'The Spirit of St Louis'. It was a one engine plane and there was only a very cramped space for Lindbergh to sit in, during the long flight.
He made the trip in just over 33 hours and 30 minutes, leaving America in New York and landing in Paris, a distance of around 5800 kilometres or 3,600 miles.
His tenacity and bravery was recognised worldwide and he became an international celebrity and was hailed as a hero.
The flight was extremely symbolic because it marked the beginning of international air travel and highlighted how planes could be used as an efficient method of transport. Prior to this, the same journey would have taken weeks by sea.
