Hockey is any game played between members of opposing teams who try to use sticks to force a ball or a puck into the opponents net played within a framework of rules.

In field hockey, which is probably the most widely played and oldest (played 4000 years ago in Egypt) form of hockey, players are armed with "J" shaped hockey sticks made of wood, carbon or composite fiber sticks, a hard ball and uniforms of t-shirts, shorts and running shoes. Shin guards are also a standard feature to protect the front of the lower foot from coming in contact with the hockey sticks.

Ice hockey has players armed with "L" shaped sticks and the center of attention being a 7-9 ounce puck made of rubber. Each player wears skates specifically meant for ice along with elaborate protective gear including helmets, elbow and knee guards etc.

Roller hockey has players playing on a non ice surface and players wear either in line or quad shaped skates.
