Our Toilet Won't Flush. What Could Be Causing This Problem?

There is too much suction on the seal in the tank and the handle is not able to release the suction when pressed down. It's slowly gotten worse over the past week to the point that we have to open the tank and lift the arm to get the suction to release and get the toilet to flush. Even that's getting hard. We are on a private septic system. Please help!

Check handle connection inside first in case it has wear and tear and is turning over rather than lifting. If that's not it, empty the cistern, fix the float to up, so that it can't fill, gently lift the seal and coat with a thin film of silicon spray allowing a waterproof seal but no suction.
