This Question is Answered

Given The Poor Quality Of Some Recently Released Hollywood Blockbusters, Is Anyone Here Inclined To Think That The Studio System May Not Be The Best Way To Make Movies?

I ask this because, despite it's excellent subject matter and obvious mega-budget, 'Spiderman 3' was one of the worst films I've seen this year. Why is that? Comments?

Well, I read not long ago an article by a Blockbuster director (can't remember his name) that he predicts indie films will take over blockbuster movies in terms of revenue and audience volume. I think this is an acceptable statement and I hope for future of movies that it's true.

I also agree with you that Spiderman 3 was awful. I'm looking forward to Transformers & Simpsons though. Let's hope they are not as drab as Spiderman.

I find that I am quite often bored with the big blockbuster movies. They seem very predictable and don't really hold my interest. I don't claim to know a lot about the business of moviemaking, but when the main point of making a movie is to make money, I think that takes the emphasis off of the creative, visionary side of the process. A writer or director may have a wonderful idea or vision of what his movie will be, but when executives get involved and start trying to second-guess what will be popular or what will get people into the theatres, the creative forces can be undermined.

Many times I do enjoy the smaller independent films more than the blockbusters.
