What Was The Book “The Sound Of Thunder” By Wilbur Smith?

The Sound of Thunder written in 1966 was the third book by Wilbur Smith and the second in the series that centred on the Courtney Family. It was a continuation and sequel to the book When the Lion Feeds. The book picks up where the other left off. The protagonist is once again Sean Courtney who had in the earlier work been borne a son by his Boer wife.

It follows his life as he leaves the wilderness with his son and finds himself in between a war that is in full swing; The Boer English conflict. Out of wilderness he falls in love with and conceives a daughter with Ruth; she is the wife of a Boer soldier. The commander of the Boer side turns out to be Sean's brother in law. Sean later marries Ruth after her husband is killed in the war.
