Melamine is basically a crystal like substance and it is sometimes also called cyanuramide. It consists of Carbon hydrogen and nitrogen. This is a synthetic compound and is widely used in making dishware, containers and bowls. It is also used in utensils and its resin coating is used on textiles and wood.

It has many commercial uses but if it is consumed by human beings or animals, it can be very harmful. The ammonia in the melamine can cause kidney stones. It can also cause renal failure.

The most recent scandal involving melamine was this year in September and it was that it had been found in the infant milk formula made by Chinese companies.
