I was a fat kid and have had weight issues all my life, many people make it very clear to us that we are like some kind of freak and it is not cool to be seen with us.  We are perceived to be unhealthy uncool and we are discriminated against. I would not even dress for gym and took an F, in it, because I was tired of the mental abuse.

because we live in a superficial world- where people judge by looks and not by character. one of the neatest people I knew weighed over 450 lbs and he was hilarious. he and his wife sang at my wedding, and we all went to new york city together. this man died one month exactly before my husband did so they are up in heaven cutting up and making trouble!

Because they feel self-conscious of themselves. Or because they are afraid of what people will say about them so some eat their fears away or don't eat at all. Then when they see someone else that is just like them they feel safer or calmer about it and don't worry anymore. I support obese ppl but if i can i make them feel better about themselves so they wont feel rejected then i help them out.

If your assignment is phrased in such black-and-white terms, the teacher has made some assumptions which will limit your understanding.  Not all obese people don't fit in.  Not all "thin" people are healthy.  The premise assumes fat equals sickness, and this is so wrong on many levels.
What generally prevents acceptance of any difference is fear, plain and simple.  People fear what is different: Food, dress, sexual identity, etc.

I've recently shed my poundage and but still act like the scared, insecure fat girl i always was and probably always will be.  People would talk to me and then when they thought i wasn't listening make of me.  It hurt and definitely bruised my confidences and ability to trust what people say. Girls bond relatively quickly but whenever we would go shopping for clothes or jeans (every fat girl's nightmare) i would always feel really left out because i didn't have a specific size and didn't want to feel embarrassed.  So i guess its basically a lack of confidence that make it hard for me to fit in.  After awhile of people talking behind your back and treating you like a freak you get a complex.  I went the normal teenage girl way and have a secret eating disorder.   People are hell bent on becoming normal and being thin is seen as normal and pretty and being fat is the opposite making it harder to deal with and to fit in.  That's not everyone though, just the part that i was in.
        Good luck, hope i helped.

As someone who has been obese and is now an 'average' size, I have learned that the obese person is usually considered to be a loser, both physically and mentally.   People do not want to associate  themselves with 'losers'.

I have found that fat people either really like food and are happier when they are fat or they eat to try and fill empty space either in their heart or in time, like sitting in front of this computer and snacking while typing this statement. :)  i have a friend  that like me isn't really interested in fitting in with the rest  of society that has no direct effect in mine and his life. Now there  are morbidly obese people that either can not control their eating or eat because they have a condition where they do not feel or can not tell that they are full. There are skinny and fat  people that don't feel they fit in with everyone. That's why we choose certain people to be our close friends and some we do not choose.

Your ideas are really off base. You're talking in generalizations that are sometimes true. Not every obese person can be pidgeon-holed as neatly as you seem to think.

did i mention that my friend weighed over 400 lbs before i met him and we became friends, and the only reason he decided to lose the weight is because he was on a boat on lake erie and thought he was having a heart attack. did i also mention that i have an uncle that weighed over 450 pounds and never could seem to eat enough to feel full. until he found out that he was going to die unless he started a new diet watched over by a doctor. so i'm thinking i hit close to home here with you or some one you know. i myself am fat i am not what they call obese but still fat. i also lost a sister in law because she would not change her ways of eating . it was like she wanted to go more than she wanted to stay even though she had a husband and three children. so i'm sorry if you think i pigeon holed anyone . but sometimes the truth hurts. i don't mean to hurt anyone by saying this but some people need to hear the truth before they will try to change or accept what is really bothering them. again i apologize if you actually believe i meant any harm by stating facts.
