No, Jesus was not born on or near December 25th. Scholars aren't generally in agreement with when Jesus was born, but this author contends that by using the Bible, we can certainly pinpoint a relative timeframe in which he was probably born.

Luke 1:5-6 says, "There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless."

Note that Zacharias was of the "course of Abia." King David set up a system so that the temple would be staffed year-round. You can read about this in 1 Chronicles 24.

Luke 1:23-24 says that after Zacharias' minstration was complete (Sivan / May-June), his wife conceived and bore John. This is important because Jesus was born six months later as you can read further on in Luke chapter 1. This means Jesus was born in the Hebrew month of Tishri, which corresponds to about September-October on our calendar.

Christmas has its origins in pagan celebrations and customs. The Roman Catholic Church later adopted these customs and made a few minor alterations in an effort to gain more followers.
