    The most common place was County Donegal. In the past, the name in this area was anlicized to O'Farachain.
    O'dugan's Topigraphical Poem and the Book of Fenagh - O'Furadhran is described as Lord of Finross or the Rosses of County Donegal. Farren is said to be the modern version of the name above.
    O'Fareen was listed as one of the principle names in Inishowen, County Donegal in 1659 but the pr-fix O is now rarely used.
    The most famous person of the name ws Elizabeth Farren 1759-1829. She was born out of the usuall area distribution of the name, in County Cork.She was a celebrated actress who married the Earl of Derby when she was 38.
