What Is The Element That Is Responsible For The True Color Of Amethyst ?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Amethyst is a colored version of quartz and obtains their beautiful colors from defects in their crystalline structures.  Defects may be introduced by heating or by irradiation. This may occur naturally; for example, some crystals change color following prolonged exposure to the UV rays present in sunlight. Within the jewelry industry, the Gems can be artificially colored. Naturally colored amethyst is much more valuable than artificially colored amethyst.
