    Badrinath is a centre of religious pilgrimage located in the Garwahl region of the Himalayas. The town is located on the banks of the river Alaknanda in the Indian state of Uttranchal. The town is located in the district of Chamoli at an altitude of 3133m.

    Badrinath is a town dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Vishnu. He is said to have undertaken penance for the well being of the human race since time immemorial at Badrinath.

    There are several other temples and shrines belonging to the Hindu and Buddhist faiths are found in the Himalayas including Haridwar, Kedarnath, Gaumukh, Rishikesh, Vaishno Devi, Amarnath, Mount Kailash etc.

    The Himalayan mountain range passes through six nations namely Nepal, Bhutan, China, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It has acted as a natural barrier for India against invaders and the cold winds of the north.
