What Is The Connection Between Creation, Evolution, And Morality?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Creation means the act of making something out of nothing. Evolution means the slow development of oganisms over time, in response to their environment. Morality is a belief, usually held by all or most of the people in a particular period or culture, about what is right and wrong.

A possible connection might be this: most religions have a story about the origins of life, which usually involve the idea that the earth and its inhabitants were created out of nothing by a god or gods. The Judaeo-Christian faiths are founded on the story that God created the earth and all its creatures in six days.

When the discoveries of Darwin, Wallace and other biologists, regarding the age of the earth and the way that species adapt over time, were made public in the 1850s, many Christians felt that by proving the Bible story couldn't be literally true, the scientists were attacking Christian morality as well - proposing a godless universe. It was many years before this idea that the theory of evolution was somehow "immoral" began to lose currency.
